Santander (Cantabria), in the north of Spain, is a combination of landscapes of green mountains with white-sand beaches, elegant mansions and palatial architecture.

This coastal enclave captivates isn’t only sought-after for its beaches and its port, but also for its rich history. The Magdalena peninsula, with its Palace and gardens, and the imposing Cathedral, narrate centuries of cultural legacy. Santander’s gastronomy, with its focus on local products and fresh seafood, adds a distinctive culinary touch to the experience.

Visit to the air-raid shelter

We will visit the Santander air-raid shelter, built by the people of Santander under the Plaza de Mariana de Pineda (today Plaza del Príncipe). In the spring of 1937 this shelter was built to protect against aerial bombardments. 

In the almost one hundred meters of shelter, the visitor will relive the bombings that hit Santander during the Spanish Civil War.

Visit to the Automotive History Museum

On this tour, participants will have the opportunity to explore a fascinating museum dedicated to automotive history, which houses more than 150 vehicles from different historical eras, built and designed in the 20th and 21st centuries. Using QR codes, visitors can access detailed information about each vehicle. Among the 90 pieces on display, which rotate among the nearly 240 in the collection, stand out authentic gems such as the 1885 Benz Patent-Motorwagen tricycle, considered the first vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine, a 1922 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, a Cadillac Fleetwood 75 that belonged to dictator Francisco Franco, and the 1930 Hispano-Suiza, which is preserved in its original state without having been restored. This museum is an obligatory stop in Salamanca that promises to surprise all its visitors.

Founded as a cathedral school with documentation dating back to at least 1174, the university was the most prestigious and influential in Spain until the 17th century, noted for its wide variety of teachings, physical and human endowments, and international student body.

Visitors will have the opportunity to look for the famous frog on the façade, symbol of the university, and marvel at the splendid courtyard and library. They can also feel like renowned authors such as Unamuno or Fray Luis de León by visiting the classrooms in which these illustrious academics left their mark. Its bell tower, at 92 meters high, is also one of the tallest in the country.
