*These programs are examples of those that may be offered at the summer meeting.

Programs 1 and 3

Communication and emotional management are crucial elements in the learning process. Teachers must be aware of how to manage emotions and understand classroom interactions to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts. This module addresses communication theories and techniques to improve teaching effectiveness, promoting awareness of different communication styles and flexibility to adapt to students’ needs.
This course aims to enhance intercultural communication in the ELE classroom, developing students’ intercultural competence. It addresses the study of the consequences of cultural clashes and communication difficulties due to a lack of knowledge of sociocultural aspects. Teachers will learn to handle cultural misunderstandings and work with diatopic varieties of Spanish, thereby improving the ability to process messages with different pronunciations.
This module explores the flow state as a theoretical and practical framework for optimizing learning in Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) classrooms, integrating contributions from cognitive psychology and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) applied to educational contexts. Starting from the conceptualization of flow as a state of high concentration, emotional involvement, and balance between challenge and skill, the module analyzes how certain cognitive, communicative, and motivational strategies promote sustained attention, self-regulated learning, and students’ perception of self-efficacy.
The incorporation of ICT in ELE teaching implies a modernization of traditional educational methods. The use of Web 2.0 applications offers opportunities for students, digital natives, to learn interactively, adapting to their preferences for images, sound, and concise messages. This not only facilitates communication but also enhances cognitive processes.
This module focuses on the development of critical thinking and problem-solving as key cognitive skills in teaching and learning processes, with special attention to their application in language classrooms and diverse educational contexts. From a pedagogical and cognitive perspective, it examines the theoretical foundations of these skills, as well as their relationship with learning autonomy, metacognition, and knowledge transfer. Additionally, it integrates strategies to guide students in identifying problems, formulating hypotheses, selecting strategies, and evaluating solutions, fostering deep and meaningful learning.

Program 2

Non-verbal communication, both at interpersonal and intrapersonal levels, plays a fundamental role in the teaching and learning process. Teachers must be aware of the non-verbal messages they convey and how to interpret students’ body language and expressions to facilitate more effective interaction. This module covers theories and techniques of non-verbal communication that help improve mutual understanding in the classroom, fostering awareness of how gestures, postures, and facial expressions influence classroom dynamics and the emotional well-being of students and teachers.
This course focuses on developing intercultural competence in situations of encounters between different cultures, addressing potential cultural misunderstandings. It explores the causes of such misunderstandings, stemming from differences in values, norms, and cultural behaviors. Teachers will learn to identify and manage these misunderstandings, promoting more effective communication between students from different cultural backgrounds. Reflection on one’s own cultural identity and its influence on interaction is also encouraged, fostering greater intercultural openness and sensitivity.
This course addresses the impact of stereotypes and clichés in ELE teaching, analyzing how preconceived ideas can influence students’ perceptions and behaviors. Strategies for identifying and dismantling stereotypes are explored, promoting a more critical and realistic approach to Spanish-speaking cultures. Teachers will learn to foster a more diverse and nuanced view of Hispanic countries in their students, helping them question common clichés and develop a deeper and more respectful understanding of different cultural realities.
The incorporation of multimedia resources and online teaching tools transforms ELE instruction, modernizing traditional educational approaches. The use of digital platforms and multimedia applications allows digital-native students to learn more interactively and dynamically, adapting to their preferences for visual and auditory content. These resources not only facilitate communication between teachers and students but also enrich the learning process by fostering creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, improving the educational experience in virtual environments.
This module analyzes the theoretical principles underpinning contemporary educational assessment, as well as its regulatory function in teaching and learning processes, moving beyond exclusively summative or grading-focused approaches. It also examines different types of oral, written, immediate, delayed, individual, and collaborative feedback and their impact on language acquisition, particularly regarding error treatment, corrective feedback, and the use of assessment as a learning tool.
